How QMA turns a laboratory report into a Soil Amendment Plan

QMA preserves the original laboratory evidence and applies only interpretation and calculation steps supported by the reported method, units, crop or intended use, soil conditions, and growing area.

  1. Start with the original report. Record what the laboratory actually reported, including the test method, result, unit, qualifier, and sample depth when those details matter. Missing information stays missing; it is not turned into zero or filled by assumption.
  2. Add the grower’s situation. The intended crop or use, growing area, managed depth, and other practical details are added so the recommendation fits the place where it will be used.
  3. Decide whether action is supported. The result is compared with an appropriate crop guideline or calibrated interpretation. General annual fertilizer guidance is not automatically treated as a measured soil deficit.
  4. Choose and size eligible amendments. If a correction is supported, QMA selects naturally focused amendments, converts the supported need into amendment weight using documented product analysis or neutralizing value, and scales the result to the actual area.
  5. Balance the whole amendment set. Nutrients and liming effects supplied by one material are credited before another material is added so the correction does not unnecessarily oversupply another nutrient.
  6. Explain the decision. The finished plan tells the grower what to do, what not to do, cautions that matter, what remains uncertain, and when another soil test would be useful.

Method-aware interpretation

Soil-test values are method-dependent indices. An Olsen phosphorus result is interpreted with Olsen-compatible evidence; ammonium-acetate potassium, DTPA micronutrients, and other methods are kept tied to their own reporting basis. Unsupported method–crop combinations do not produce calculated recommendations.

Crop and bed separation

Unlike growing areas remain separate when requirements conflict. QMA does not average incompatible pH targets or force one treatment profile across areas that materially require different treatment.

Organic-first amendment selection

Natural amendments are preferred when they can meet the supported need safely. Selection considers the full amendment analysis, including nutrients or liming value that may affect other parts of the plan.

Visible evidence and uncertainty

The original laboratory values, methods, units, qualifiers, and unresolved limitations remain visible. QMA does not silently guess missing values or hide conditions that prevent a defensible recommendation.

Boundary: QMA interprets existing laboratory soil-test results. It does not perform laboratory testing, diagnose contamination, or replace professional investigation where contamination, disease, or another specialized condition is suspected.
